RACE UPDATE 2 OF 3

Welcome to Update 2 of 3 for entrants in this year’s Island Triathlon Festival, taking place this weekend across Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February 2026, including the Haze Stockton Sunrise Run. Thanks so much for being part of the event – we’re looking forward to an amazing race weekend.

PLEASE NOTE – RACE KIT COLLECTION
Race kit collection is now available on Friday evening from 4.00pm–6.00pm, Saturday from 5am-3pm as well as on race morning for all events. Where possible, we recommend collecting your race kit before race day to help make your race morning as smooth and stress-free as possible. We understand this isn’t always doable, and race morning collection will still be available.

WEATHER & WATER SAFETY
The weather forecast is looking beautiful (and warm) for this weekend’s festivities. Please be assured that we have comprehensive water safety measures in place, with experienced personnel on the water throughout all swim legs to help keep everyone safe.

This email builds on the information shared in Update 1 and includes additional details to help you prepare for race weekend.

If you are part of a triathlon relay team, please forward this email to any teammates who may not receive these updates directly.

Thanks again for racing with us.

RACE DIRECTOR Q&A

For those new to triathlon or wanting more detailed course information, a Q&A session with our Race Director, Ja Davis, will be held on Saturday at 1.00pm next to the bike transition area. Pick up your race kit and stay on to ask questions and feel race-day ready.

TRANSITION INFORMATION

Transition opens at 5.15am on Sunday and closes 30 minutes before each race’s first wave start.

Later races may access transition again after the previous race has started. Please be mindful of other participants.

Relay teams will wait at the bike location to change over, with one team member at a time.

Aquabike competitors will finish in the bike compound. Please do not remove your helmet until your bike has been racked.

FERRIES FROM NEWCASTLE

If you are staying in Newcastle, we have arranged early ferry services starting from 5.15am on Saturday and 5.00am on Sunday.

The ferry station is approximately 50 metres from the event compound in Stockton. The trip takes around 7 minutes and bikes are permitted. Normal ferry fares apply.

PARKING

Friday & Saturday
All roads are open and parking operates as normal near the ferry station.

Sunday
If arriving before 6.00am, parking is available near the event compound off Wharf Crescent within the park. Entry is via Mitchell Street, Hunter Street and South Street only.

Please note: vehicles parked in this area will not be able to exit until roads reopen after the event (approx. 10.30am).

After 6.00am, please park in surrounding Stockton streets and walk to the compound. There is ample parking available. Please do not park in driveways or on the course.

PRESENTATIONS

Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place presentations for each event will be held as soon as practical after each race.

We no longer conduct standard age category presentations. With all participants receiving a finisher medal, attendance at age group presentations has declined significantly in recent years.

All participants will continue to be recognised in the official results, and podium photos are welcome.

RUN FOR RUI

Run for Rui is a charity event that we are proud to support, taking place on the same weekend as the Island Triathlon Festival in Stockton, near the Island Triathlon race compound. Rui tragically passed away at just 25 days old due to Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT), a rare but preventable condition.

Rui’s dad Marcio and his close friends will be running across the weekend to raise funds for NAIT research. If you see them out on course or along the Stockton foreshore, please cheer them on and show your support.

Check out the link below to read Rui’s story, learn more about NAIT, and donate or get involved via the fundraising page.
