Hill to Harbour

The iconic Newcastle Hill to Harbour is back on Sunday 4 April 2027, with early bird entries opening in November 2026.

Hill to Harbour welcomes runners, walkers and wheelchair participants of all ages and abilities. The feature event is the 12km Hill to Harbour, an unforgettable point-to-point course from Bar Beach to Carrington, taking in some of Newcastle’s most spectacular coastline, beaches and harbour views.

For a shorter challenge, the 6km Halfa Hill to Harbour offers all the atmosphere and excitement in a more achievable distance. The Hunter Valley Orthodontics 2K-4-FUN is perfect for kids, families and anyone wanting to be part of the day.

Whether you are chasing a fitness goal, raising funds for a cause close to your heart or simply looking for a fun day out, Hill to Harbour has something for everyone.

Where does the event start and finish?

Hill to Harbour 12km - Starts in Bar Beach. Halfa Hill to Harbour 6km - Starts at The Station, Newcastle. Hunter Valley Orthodontics 2K-4-FUN - Starts Pat Jordan Oval. All events finish at Pat Jordan Oval, Carrington. 

What distances are available?

The main event is the Hill to Harbour 12km. We also offer the 6km Halfa Hill to Harbour and the 2K-4-FUN.

When do entries close?

Entries close the day before the event unless sold out earlier. A late entry fee applies from two weeks out, so it’s best to secure your spot early.

Can I transfer my entry if I can’t race?

Yes, you can transfer your entry to another person through the Crowdcatcher entry portal (link above) by clicking the red “Transfer Now” button. A $10 transfer fee applies. Please note: transfers are only available within this event - we do not transfer entries to other H Events.

Are there finishers medals?

Yes, all participants who cross the finish line will receive a commemorative medal.

Are there prizes or age group awards?

We no longer present age group medals, as many went unclaimed in the past and this created unnecessary waste. To reduce our environmental impact, only the overall male and female winners will receive prizes.

Can I run with my dog?

While we love furry friends, dogs aren’t permitted on the course. With thousands of people on the track, it just isn’t safe for them or other participants. Thank you for your understanding. 

What is your refund policy?

We offer, 70% refund up to 6 weeks before the event, 40% refund from 6 weeks to 14 days before the event and no refunds within 14 days of the event. Entries can’t be transferred to other H Events, but you can transfer your entry to another person via the entry portal.

Where will results and race photos be available?

Official results will be published on Multisport Australia Timing, and race day photos will be available through Marathon Photos

How do I raise money for a charity?

When you sign up for Hill to Harbour, you’ll have the option to choose a charity and set up fundraising through the Grassrootz platform.
