EVENT NOTICE – TEMPORARY CHANGES TO TRAFFIC AND PATH ACCESS

17th Maitland Running Festival (formerly River Run)
Sunday 7 June 2026 – 6:00 am to 11:30 am

The 17th Maitland Running Festival, an annual running and walking event, will be held in and around the Maitland Regional Athletics Centre, the Riverbank, and Maitland Park. Approximately 1,200 participants from across the region are expected to take part.

The event is designed to promote Maitland and encourage healthy, active lifestyles. Your residence or business is located on or near the event course. To ensure the safety of participants and the general public, and to maintain an attractive course, temporary changes will be made to local traffic and pedestrian access.

We ask that you avoid vehicle and pedestrian movements on the streets and paths listed below during the event times where possible, and take extra care if you need to travel in the area. The changes are as follows:

·       Runners will use the paths around the Maitland Regional Athletics Centre and the adjoining sports fields, including Harold Gregson Reserve.

    • The footpath from Harold Gregson Park to Abbott Street on High Street will be used by runners in both directions from 7:00 am to 10:30 am.
  • There will be no vehicle movement in the Harold Gregson car park between 7:00 am and 10:30 am.
  • Abbott Street will be closed to traffic from High Street to Devonshire Street for use by runners.
    • Residents on Abbott Street may exit via a slip lane by speaking with the traffic controller on site or by calling 0402 003 355.Please allow additional time to be safely escorted out.
  • Runners will cross High Street at Abbott Street in both directions. Traffic controllers will be in place, and runners will have right of way during crossing intervals. If accessing the Track, approach from the north.
  • Residents on Ward Street, Rose Street and Smith Street must use High Street to enter and exit.
  • Devonshire Street at Athel D’Ombrain Drive will be right‑turn only. Access and exit remain possible via High Street. Basketball access is Railway Station end via Bent St and access to the basketball parking is open.
  • Runners will use the footbridge opposite Devonshire Street to access Maitland Park. Regular users are requested to delay use of this footbridge where possible during the event.
  • Runners will use the internal paths around Maitland Park.

·       Runners will cross James Street and enter Odd Street from the paths. Traffic controllers will be in place.

    • Vehicles should exit James Street via Carrington Street and Hunter Street.
  • Access from Raglan Street to Odd Street will be closed.
    • Vehicles should exit Raglan Street via Radford Street, then into Carrington Street and Hunter Street.
  • Odd Street will be closed to traffic and will be used exclusively by runners.
    • Please do not park in Odd Street during the event times.
  • Runners will cross Hunter Street at Odd Street and use the northern (school) side of Hunter Street to run out and back towards the riverbank.
  • Traffic on Hunter Street will operate in contra‑flow on the eastern side of the roadway, as directed by traffic controllers.
  • Please give way to runners on the River Foreshore path, or delay use of this path until after 11:30 am if possible.
