Lake Macquarie Triathlon Festival 15 - 17 March!
Run - Aquathlon - Triathlon - Aquabike
This is update 2 of 3 about our newest multi-sport event at beautiful Lake Macquarie. Thanks to the Committee for the Hunter, Lake Macquarie City, Quarry Mining, Ampcontrol, ARTC, KCE, Dantia, The Athlete's Foot, Brokenwood, Just Dig Deeper, Bicycle Centre Hunter Valley, Swansea Belmont SLSC, Charlestown Rotary and Hunter Melanoma Foundation, this new Multi-Sport Festival will see an action packed weekend of swimming, cycling and running events. The event is being staged at Speers Point Park on the shores of Lake Macquarie.

OUT OF THE SUN RUN
(charity fundraising 5000m run/walk)

Our friends at Hunter Melanoma Foundation will start the Festival action with their new OUT OF THE SUN RUN. This 5km 'fun' run or walk will be an opportunity to test yourself over the beautiful 5km out and back course on Lake Macquarie and also support Melanoma Research, Patient Support and Prevention services. Best of all its late in the evening and your sun exposure will be minimal!! This is all staged from the main Event Compound and finish area at Speers Point Park FROM 6.30PM. The fun run uses a different entry system to the other events and supports fundraising, if you wish to help out.

Lake Macquarie AQUATHLON
(swim 1,000m and run 5,000m)
|
If the bike leg of a triathlon is not your thing, then ditch the bike and have a go at this swim and run event as part of the festival. The Lake Macquarie City Aquathlon starts near Speers Point Jetty and the event will swim 1000m close to the shore and then run 5000m along the flat shoreline path of Lake Macquarie, finishing in our substantial event compound and finish area. Wetsuits are allowed and the event is sanctioned and staged under Aust Triathlon rules. Lake Macquarie Point Swim
(swim 1,000m OR 2,000m)

There has not been an open water swimming event in Lake Macquarie for some years. This new event offers safe and spectator friendly 1000m or 2000m open water swimming events on the banks of beautiful Speers Point Park. The event is open to swimmers 12 years+ and will be staged with the assistance of the Swansea Belmont SLSC. Come and join the fun, with every swimmers getting a finishers MEDAL. Standard Distance Triathlon & Aquabike
(swim 1500m, cycle 39km and run 10,000m)
|
The first Triathlon event staged in Lake Macquaire since the 1990's, the Quarry Mining Standard Distance Triathlon is our longest event for more serious triathletes doing all three legs or lovers of swimming, cycling or running, doing a three person relay team. The event will swim just off Speers Point Park, complete cycle six X (6.5km) laps along The Esplandade and run along the shore of Lake Macquarie on a flat and scenic course. We also offer an Aquabike (swim/bike) option. If you have been building up your triathlon skills or just keen to be part of this NEW festival, then get on board.

SUN 17 March 8.00am
Sprint Distance Triathlon
(swim 750m, cycle 19.5km and run 5,000m)
|
Our friends at KCE are supporting the Sprint Distance Triathlon to be staged on the same course. This event is also open to individuals doing the lot or relay teams doing one leg each. This event will suit athletes who are progressing through the triathlon distances and or who specialise in Sprint distance racing. The course is fast and furious and will test the best.

Short Distance Triathlon
(swim 250m, cycle 13km and run 2,500m)
|
The Ampcontrol Short Course Triathlon is ideal for first timers, corporate groups or those who just want to be part of the fun. This event is open to individuals who complete all legs or relays team completing one leg each. The course is much shorter than the other events but will test your fitness and skills across the three legs.

Junior Distance Triathlon
(swim 100 or 150m, cycle 2 or 6.5km and run 500 or 1000m)

The ARTC Junior events are open to ages 7-11 and offers an opportunity to participate in a safe and exciting environment. The swim leg will be staged along the edge of the Lake, with ample water safety by the Swansea Belmont SLSC. The cycle leg is on closed roads and the run leg is flat along along Lake Macquaire. Note 7-9 yo do 100m swim, 2km cycle and 500m run. 10-11 yo do 150m swim, 6.5km cycle and 1km run. Ages are defined @ 31 Dec 2023.

1 RACE INFORMATION - booklet will be released at the top of this mail . The event is staged under Aust Triathlon rules.
2. MEDALS - are available for all finishers. Category winner medals are available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age category.
3. ENTRIES close when we reach out race limits or 2 hours before the event.
4. BIKES - all road worthy bikes are eligible to use, with an Australian standard, correctly fitted helmet.
5. WETSUITS - are allowed if water is less than 24.6 degrees. Water is currently 22 degrees.
6. SWIM SAFETY - is provided by Swansea Belmont SLSC. There are motorised rescue boats monitoring the area constantly and paddle boards along the course for quick response.
7. BIKE COMPOUND - is open from 5.15am on Sunday ONLY. The compound is next to the swim start and a briefing will be done approx 15min before each event. Be ready!

8. RUN COURSE - is 2.5km out and back for all events except Short Course and Juniors. Seperate turns wll be marked for those events.
9. SPECTATORS - are welcome and should pay attention to not block or cross the course during the morning. Outside assistance is not allowed.
10. FOOD AND DRINKS - will be available all weekend at regular park vendors and additional vendors on site.
11. PARKING - is available right beside the event and will remain open at all times. Look for Park Rd, Speers Point. DO NOT PARK ON THE COURSE!!!
12.CYCLE COURSE - is closed to traffic, however you must be alert for rouge pedestrains or vehicles that may enter the course.
13. SWIM - The Lake is salt water, however the Speers Point end can also be quite fresh.
14. UPADTES - Weather and course updates will be communicated via email and social media.

First Timers
There will be a Q&A with the Race director on site on Saturday at 11.45am for seniors, 1pm for juniors and again 3pm for seniors where he will answer all questions and walk you through the day including how to set up in the bike transition, which way to go, what to bring and will also provide some tips. Why not pick up your race kit at the same time.
