Nobbys2Newcastle Ocean Swim postponed and why ocean swimming can be beneficial
The Nobbys2Newcastle Ocean Swim will now be held on February 21 after dangerous surf forced the postponement of the 2km open water event, originally set down for December 13.
Ocean Swims are gaining popularity as an alternative to running or cycling with events held along NSW coastline every weekend.
The Nobbys2Newcastle swim is run by Newcastle Surf Club and is a good way to support a local volunteer organisation.
The beautiful course is littered with safety personnel and will only be held if conditions are suitable.
It offers great swim training for ironman competitors or for swimmers in general.
It also offers some ‘salt therapy’, which we here at hevents believe is not only good for the body but good for the soul.
For centuries the ocean has been credited with health benefits. In old films sick people always convalesced by the seaside because of the saltwater and therapeutic salt air. So good is salt water and salt air for you that there are even salt spas you can go to these days with various reported health benefits, such as improving your skin and helping with respiratory problems. It is called salt therapy, but you can get some of your own salt therapy by just jumping in the ocean for a swim.
