NewRun 2024 Highlights

City of Newcastle’s Festival of Running NEWRUN comprises the 12km Hill to Harbour, 6km Halfa Hill to Harbour, and 2K4FUN all held on Saturday 7th April 2024, and the Newcastle Marathon and half Marathon on Saturday 21st April 2024.

Now in its 17th year, NEWRUN saw 4,000 athletes participate across the two weekends: a 28% increase on 2023.  Our most senior athlete at 87 years young competed in the Halfa Hill to Harbour, while the 2K4FUN included our youngest athlete aged 4 just years.

With 64% of athletes residing outside the local area, they along with their families and friends were very welcome visitors to the beautiful city of Newcastle. Total attendance across the two weekends was estimated at more than 12,000.

NEWRUN would be impossible to present without our valued sponsors and local community groups. In 2024 we once again gratefully welcomed continued sponsorship from The City of Newcastle, The Athletes Foot, Marathon Tyres and Hunter Valley Orthodontics.

This year for the first time, NEWRUN received Flagship Event recognition from the state government’s tourism arm Destination NSW, who are committed to making NSW the premier visitor economy of the Asia Pacific by 2030.
