Back to the Future
After 23 years being Newcastle and the Hunter’s most successful triathlon event for both serious and novice participants, the 2016 event is going ‘back to the future’. It’s moving its main compound and finish line back to Nobby’s, Camp Shortland and condensing the program from three days to two. All triathlon events will be staged on Sunday 6 March. “Apart from presenting a professionally staged triathlon event for Newcastle, one of the main goals of this event is to raise funds for the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). This format will reduce costs and improve the final donation for HMRI”, says Event Director Paul Humphreys. The atmosphere is also expected to be electric on Sunday, with competitors starting and finishing events in close proximity across five hours. With the event compound including a sports expo, rides and food stalls, it is expected there will be around 5,000 spectators, in addition to the 2,000+ participants.
