Course improvements and changes

With the recent extensions and improvements to the track and the substantial increase in participation numbers, we have made a few last minute changes:

  1. NEW FINISH AREA - To allow for more room, the finish line will now be in the grassed area on the southern side of the Belmont TAFE off Alick St Belmont. Just 270m past the old Station.
  2. REDHEAD DETOUR OUT - The course has been remeasured and we now no longer need the old Cowlishaw St 'detour' to get the distance to be exactly 15km. This makes for a more streamlined course. Don't worry our mates at the 530 runners will be still on course near Cowlishaw St to keep you hydrated.
  3. MORE START LINE ROOM - The start line will be slightly further down the track which will allow us to safely marshal multiple waves on the track. As usual, marshal at the St Pius School grounds and please still listen for instructions before heading to the start.
  4. New Course map is  https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5091561469

Weather

With recent weather being unseasonably warm, you WILL need to account for warmer than usual conditions for your run. Given the earlier start, substantial shade along the course and regular drink stations, we are not expecting any issues.  You should however make sure you are well hydrated prior to the race and stay alert to other runners and marshal directions. If you feel unwell, please let one of our course marshals know. We have mobile first aid on a bike on the course and at the finish line, and can deploy ambulance when required.

Start Marshalling - NOTE

The course is only 4m wide, with limited space to marshal at the start area. This will require strict adherence to the start marshalling plan to allow safe and orderly wave starts. Were possible, we recommend getting a lift to the marshalling area at the St Pius X School off Park Ave. There is limited parking due to recent construction work. Each wave will be walked down from the school on a path and will be crossed at the traffic controlled crossing. Park Avenue is a busy road and you must obey the marshals instructions. Only cross as directed!

Course Information

The course is very simple to follow. Just follow the track from the start to the finish . We have never lost ANYONE!!  It starts on the Crn Bailey St and Park Avenue Adamstown and the FINISH line is in Alick St Belmont, on the southern side of the Belmont TAFE!

Waves Explanation

Waves are allocated to make the race starts and track congestion more managable. No matter what...your time will not start until you cross the start matts. You must wear your timing chip on your SHOE! Waves have changed from previous years but are still AGE determined, with younger runners going first. This allows the field to spread out along the track in each wave. The waves will be approx 5 Min apart. Listen to the Mcee in the marshal area in St Pius X school grounds. Of course if you want to run with friends or family of different ages, you can, however be conscious of blocking other runners during the event. Waves are:
  1. Wheel chair athletes (if you already have your bib you can unload in Bailey St)
  2. Elite and speedy runners (sub 4 min/km for males and sub 4.30 min/km for female runners).
  3. Ages Junior to 29 years
  4. Ages 30-39 years
  5. Ages 40-49 years
  6. Ages 50-59 years
  7. Ages 60+ years
  8. Note we are NOT planning pacers at the event as we are trying to avoid large packs forming on the relatively skinny track. There are kilometre markers every 1 km.
