HENDERSON NEWCASTLE MARATHON
Race Day: Sunday 18th April 2027
Thank you for being part of the Henderson Newcastle Marathon in the past. We have listened to the 2026 post event survey feedback and wanted to reach out to our past competitors to share how we are improving the race day experience for 2027.
Course update
At the start of last year’s Half Marathon, an unexpected sand slide occurred on the breakwall mid-event. This covered part of the running line and caused congestion for some runners.
This had not occurred in previous years with similar entrant numbers, as the sand slide happened after races were already underway, leaving less room on the breakwall.
We apologise if this impacted your race experience last year. Based on this, we have removed this section of the breakwall for 2026 to ensure it does not happen again.
Earlier Half Marathon start + rolling start
Thanks to our new timing partner and the introduction of a rolling start, the Half Marathon will now start at 8:00am (previously 9:00am).
This means:

A cooler start time and better racing conditions

A smoother, safer flow on course

Running alongside marathon competitors without course congestion
With a rolling start, your race time only begins when you cross the start mat – a format now used at many major running events.
More atmosphere on course
We are adding more on-course entertainment to keep energy high and support you every step of the way.
Bigger race expo
Race kit collection (for those who don’t choose bib postage) will take place on Saturday 17th April at The Station, alongside a bigger and better sports expo to kick off race weekend.
For those who can’t make Saturday, race kit collection will still be available on race morning from 5:00am. However, we strongly recommend collecting the day before for a smoother race morning.
