Event Notice and Changed traffic conditions

Newcastle International Half Marathon

Sunday 6 Oct 2019 5.30am- 11.00am

The Newcastle International Half Marathon will be held on the above date and time. The event includes ½ marathon running event for elite and recreational runners. The event promotes the City of Newcastle to international tourists and encourages health and fitness. The events will attract almost 1000 runners. Due to the size of the event, it is staged along roadways and paths between Newcastle Foreshore, Honeysuckle, Nobbys, Bar, Dixon and Merewether Beach Foreshores. There will be a large number of international runners in this event.To protect the safety of runners the following traffic management initiatives will be in place. During these times you can expect road closures on or limited access to:

  • Bathers Way – Kilgore St to Watkins St – closed runners chute in place. Pedestrian traffic possible with limited path.
  • Kilgour Avenue – closed 6.30am – 9.30am (access for residents possible via escort from Traffic Controllers)
  • Memorial Drive – closed from Bar Beach Ave to Kilgour Ave 6.00 – 9.30am
  • Memorial Drive – closed from High St to Bar Beach Ave from 6.30am – 9.30am (resident access on request - north bound only) No access when runners on road 7.50am – 9.30am
  • York Rd King Edward Park - closed 6.30am - 10.00am
  • Scott St east of Watt St – 6.30am – 10.30am – access for residents only. Access via Watt and Shortland Esplanade.
  • Shortland Esplanade – Watt St to Zarra St - OPEN NORTHBOUND ONLY AT ALL TIMES.
  • Shortland Esplanade – Zarra to Nobbys closed - 6.00am – 10.30am
  • Nobbys Rd from Stevenson Place to Wharf Rd – Closed 6.30am – 9.00amExit for residents south only via escort.
  • Wharf Rd from Watt St to Argyle St closed from 6.00am – 9.00am (access to apartments from Argyle end via slip lane, city side) No access east of apartments.
  • Wharf Rd from Watt St to Nobby’s Rd from 5.30am –10.30am
  • Honeysuckle promenade – runners on the harbour side of the walk-ways heading west and then west from Argyle St to the Worth Place. 7.30am – 8.30am
  • Honeysuckle Drive east bound Closed- 7.15am – 8.30am
